It's hard to believe today's Toyota 4Runner descended from the original 1985 model, which was little more than a four-wheel-drive pickup with a canopy and two extra seats. The current version, which is the third generation of Toyota's volume sport utility, was introduced in 1995 and has very little in common with any Toyota truck. While its predecessor was often criticized for a lack of power, the current 4Runner shares the same powerful in-line four and V6 engines found in the Tacoma pickup. The 4Runner model range is wide enough to satisfy buyers looking for various combinations of sport, utility and luxury.
