Default 1992 Lexus SC300, Rear Turning signals not working, front are.?

So I'm working on a 92' Lexus SC300 for a friend, she recently had another friend install a sound system, long story short the work was choppy. for some reason this caused the turning signals in the rear to go out, but the two in the front continue to work. the signals on the dash do not work. First thought it was a fuse, but everything checked out fine. checked the bulbs. the only reasonable thought besides the wiring I have concluded is that it is the flasher relay, but if this is the case wouldn't all the signals be disabled? does anybody have any ideas?
