Default Lexus ES330 or BMW 528i?

I'm trying to buy a new car and have been in debate between a 2005 ES330 or a 05 528i. But need help choosing which one? Insurance and reliability play a role, but also comfort. Or can you guys reccomend a good 9-12k luxury car? Thanks.

Make mine a Lexus, but you are the one driving it for the next 2-5 years. I say drive at least two of each and make your decision on that.

You are comparing two completely different vehicles....

ES330 is more of a comfort oriented soft vehicle. 528i is a firmer sport oriented vehicle. Other than both of them being luxury vehicles, they pretty much share no common characteristics. Insurance on BMW will be higher. Repair will depend on the condition and what exactly is needed. Generally speaking, Toyota would be more reliable but them being 8 year old vehicle, it all depends.

I'd suggest driving both until you know which one you'd like better.

Please budget for maintenance.... it's not going to be cheap.

Both are very solid vehicles and both are expensive to maintain because they are luxury cars. The BMW may cost abit more as its a performance sedan compared to the Lexus, which is based on the Toyota Camry.

If you want the comfortable car, get the Lexus. It's easy to drive. BMWs are also comfortable but it's more performance oriented so it's got heavier steering.

If you do a lot of highway drives, get the BMW. Both may drive the same at 30mph but when you up at 80mph a BMW or any german car is far more stable and solid than a Lexus.

"But need help choosing which one? Insurance and reliability play a role, but also comfort."

^^ Any Lexus would have much cheaper insurance rates than BMW so the ES330 is much cheaper to insure than 528i. But if you compare the Lexus ES330 to Toyota Camry for example, the Lexus is expensive to insure than Toyota Camry. (Because Lexus is a luxury brand and Toyota is not, you pay extra for luxury) You will not get insurance rates on yahoo answers, call around.

The Lexus has proven to be one of the most reliable automotive brands on the market today. The Lexus is likely to be more reliable than BMW. However, this does not mean that you should not completely disregard the its routine maintenance schedule.

The Lexus is more comfortable than BMW. BMW sacrifices a bit on comfort and makes its mark on driving dynamic. The Lexus is not as engaging to drive as BMW.

"Or can you guys reccomend a good 9-12k luxury car? "

^^ Seems like you are focused on mid-size luxury sedans. My other recommendation would be Acura TL.
