Yes and no. Cars are priced where they can sell based on what people will actually pay for them.

Isn't a Lincoln just a glorified Ford?

Isn't a Cadillac just a glorified Chevy?

Isn't an Accura just a glorified Honda?

Almost all major mfg. have a luxury division.

kinda. cars nowdays have a large amount of optional extras. I'll talk about VW and audi because I know the models quite well however the same argument goes for lexus and toyotas.

a VW jetta is a cheap compact sedan. an a4 is a compact executive sedan.

they are both built on the same platform and use the same engine (the a4 might have more options but base spec its the 2.0 liter turbo engine)

the main difference comes from the interior features like navigation, media player, leather seats, heated seats, electric seats and the trim of the car. other than that, the cars would seem to be the same right? no. because while the VW has an optional extra to get 4wd, the audi has it built in from the start. the same goes with lexus except the difference is much bigger.

a toyota is front wheel drive. from the corolla to camry, to even the avalon, toyotas are front wheel drive where as a lexus is rear wheel drive. a specced out toyota might have similar interior features to a lexus but the mechanical side of things will be different. for most people, this doesnt matter, but to those that actually enjoy driving and want a good drivers car. the difference from a specced out vw jetta to an audi a4 or a corolla to an IS means the world. personally, i would rather take a base model luxury car over a specced out regular version because i love driving too much to give up the great feel of rear wheel drive.

Ofcourse they are overpriced! lexus just added some minor changes to their cars to make them "different" from toyota, but in general they both are japanese and from the same company

How come the last sentence, a question, does not have a question mark? Why no punctuation mark at all? How you, after all of those hours of classroom work do not know the most basic rules of English grammar? Is your education overpriced? Waste of time and money? Is a $500,000 home overpriced? A $3,000 per day room in a luxury hotel overpriced? Is a first class ticket to Rome, Italy overpriced at $6,500? Is a $60,000 Chevy Silverado all decked out truck overpriced? What you are saying is that you cannot afford an Lexus. In fact. Lexus is not a car. There are no Lexus cars. Lexus is the name of the car company that makes cars. Lexus makes many car models with many trims options. But there are no Lexus cars. Mr. RX7 Drifter, if you cannot afford one of the brands of luxury cars with one of the best reputations on the planet as to design, quality and engineering, then just drive your RX, a luxury vehicle to 95% of the population on the planet, and allow the rest of the 3% that can enjoy their money in whatever way they wish. No, Lexus is not a glorified Toyota vehicle at all any more than Acura is a glorified Honda nor Infiniti a glorified Nissan. Not even close.

Are Audis Overpriced VW's?

How about Range Rover overpriced Ford?

Or Jaguar overpriced Ford?

No they're not, one of the most relaible cars on the planet and one of the best build quality. And they are up to date on technology. A lexus is a car you buy and keep for 10 years then pass it on to your son and he passes on to his son
