Default Buying a 2001 Lexus IS300 with high miles?

I asked a question about a Mustang yesterday, now I will ask about a Lexus. I have been in the market for a practical sporty car that is reliable. I have spotted a 2001 yellow Lexus IS300 for 3700.00. The catch....it has 238,000 miles on it. I would never even consider a car with that many miles but I know a Lexus can last well over 300,000 if properly maintained. My brother in law said go for it, that is if the cars history checks out. It has a new timing belt, water pump, thermostat a a couple other things. Does anyone else think this is a good/bad idea.

$3700 is too much for a 13 year old car

CHECK FOR RUSATY SUSPENSIONS and CHASSIS rust! I WOULD BET on the TOYOTA ENGIEN and TRANS ( made by AISIN) Teh TOYOTA engien like most EURO ENGIENS< wil NEVER really wear out! THEY WILL GET DIRTY THOUGH! At THSI mielage, have ALL FLUDIS CHANGED< even the BRAKE FLUID! Trust ONLY the TOYOTA DEALERSHIP or LEXUS dealership with this JOB! THEY GIVE WARRANTIES on the work and use EXACTLY the right EQUIPEMENT< GASKETS, FLUDIS and FILTERS! topyota MODELLED NEARLY everything they make ON bmw AND benz ENGIEN DESIGNS! tHIS IS why THEY ARE so very good AND PROSPEROUS! tHERE IS no real endpoint TO THE LIFE OF A toyota! IT IS all BASED ON owner AUTO INTELLIGENCE, AND THE OL' pocket book! uSE fuel efficeint tires FROM michelin OR continental. gET A tune up WITH iridiium plugs FROM denso or NGK! USE MOBI LONE 0W_30 oil! GET SERVICE RECORDS and be SURE they used ONLY TOYOTA reapir prarts adn NOT the junjk fo\rom AUTO PARTS STORES! A2001 lexus with HIGH MILEAGE is NORMAL! Expect that 400k mile mark to be reached! ONCE AGIAN >>>>CAHNGE ALL THE FLUIDS>>>> get a MOTOR FLUSHING downe, and use ONLYL GENUIINE TOYOTA FLUDIS! Toyota coolnat is RED< not GREEN and NOT ORANGE! EXPECT to change ALL FLUIDS every 100k miles on THIS CAR< or ANY CAR! BRAKE FLUID that is BRWON is already toxic waste! FRESH FLUID protect yoru CALIEPRS and master cylidner and MORE frominternal corrowsioin and MORE! BAD FLUID here turns into LIQUID SANDPAPER and ACIDIC TOXIC WSTE that eats up ALUMINM and scuffs it beyond USE! GOOD LUCK!!

DO NOT GET THAT POS, when ever you get a car that is used you need to het it under 100,000 on body and engine. After any cars reach over 200,000miles the car starts to wear down. Its a 13 year old car with almost 250000 miles on it. It is probably worth a grand. Nothing against your brother but he is in law not mechanic. Dont forget it might have new parts but the whole chassis can be rusty and other important parts. You might think it is cheap but once you start buying new parts after the car starts breaking down it becomes a money pit. It is better to buy a car with less milage on it and spend a little more money

I say go for it, I am a used car aficionado...I have only purchased one car brand new and the highest mileage I have ever seen on any one of my owned cars has been over 300k on my 90 ford ranger. You will need to be aware that high mileage does come with some headaches. You will want to have receipts for the 200k+ service, timing belt, gaskets, oil changes, flushes and things of that nature. These other clowns don't appear to have any real automotive knowledge. It really comes down to a gamble, it may be a lemon it may be the best car you have ever owned. I can tell you that Toyota's typically last a long time of maintained properly and the IS300 is sexy. As long as the body is straight and there is no rust or other damage you could probably talk them to 3000 cash and buy a rebuilt or used lower mileage motor. Gear Head here, if you find a car you like buy it, rebuild it, and cherish what you have accomplished. Don't let milage scare you.
