depends on who's driving. They are quite fast and assuming most people get their first car at the age of 17, it is very easy to wrap them around a pole. However, if the person driving is responsible enough it is a great car.

not really. don't get me wrong, it's a great car but it's not great at what makes a car good for a first car. a first car should be cheap and easy to maintain. for the most part, people's first cars are bought when they have a small budget for purchase price and running costs. a Lexus is a luxury car and maintenance will be more expensive than on a regular car. add in the upgraded engine (over the is 250) and these costs keep getting higher. maintenance on a luxury car can go 1 of 2 ways. you either do maintenance at the dealership or another reputable luxury garage where you will just have to sign papers and pay up but not make any tough decisions or you go to a somewhat less equipped garage in an attempt to lower costs. this means that you may have more issues ordering factory replacements for broken or worn down parts. seeing as how first cars are often bought on a tight budget this is most likely what will happen. so not only will maintenance be costly but it will also not be easy.

now we get to performance. the IS300 is faster than most regular cars. it's also rear wheel drive which gives it a greatly improved sporty characteristic when taken to the limit. for a new driver this can be quite dangerous especially if you don't know what to expect from the car near the performance limits. if you don't drive it hard it won't be noticeable other than in winter where you will need to equip some good winter tires and possibly a bag of sand in the trunk (puts extra weight on the rear wheels for more traction and you can use it to get unstuck)

all that being said, if you have already done your homework about maintenance costs and know what to expect from a RWD car in terms of handling. the IS 300 is a pretty good car. lexus has a history and reputation for building reliable, and technologically advanced luxury cars. very little can compete with a lexus. (BMW, Audi and Mercedes basically)

Hell yeah. It's my third car and third Toyota/Lexus. They are reliable, durable, safe, and cost less to insure.
