Default Oxygen Sensor

Hello,

I have a 1994 Lexus ES300. The engine light recently came on. I took it to Auto Zone for a test (OBD2 test?). Turns out I have an Oxygen Sensor out. It's the "Bank 1 Sensor 1" sensor.

Questions:

Is the "Bank 1 Sensor 1" O2 Sensor the one that's at the front of the car? Or is it one of the others?

Is it the "upstream" or "downstream" sensor (I noticed on Ebay there's the 2 different ones)

Where's the best place to buy these sensors? Ebay has them for around 20 to 30 bucks..

Thank you

I have a 1999 es300. On mine, the Bank 1 Sensor 1 is the one nearest the firewall. It is tricky and difficult to get to. You will need to research the correct part for that bank 1 position to make sure you get one with the proper length wiring harness. It is longer than the front sensor in front of the radiator. You will need a sensor wrench socket fitting. About $10 on Amazon or even at parts store. Mine is a 7/8 size. Be certain to buy a brand name, preferably Denso( OEM) sensor as generic and off brand may not last or work with the Toyota computer. Bosch is OK but I was told by my mechanic these may fail sooner and may have too wide a range. I used one and so far so good but just letting you know what a pro told me. Good luck. Your hands will hurt trying to get up in there to do this if you don't have it up in the air. A lift will make the job much easier.
