Default Shifting Cable Replacement on a 2005 Scion XB?

Hi gear heads! My husbands Scion was found this evening to have its shifting cable barely hanging on by threads. He only has gears 1 and 3 and no reverse.

He is a do-it-yourself type guy and quite the gear head himself. He will have no problem getting the part as he manages an auto parts store.

My question is have any of you ever replaced a shifting gear before? If so, do you need to remove the engine? Or is it a rather simple operation?

Thanks!

Default

All you have to do is drain the TRANSMISSION oil. Drop the transmission, it sounds like you need to open it up. Do so and do what needs to be done and put it all back together. Be careful because its really heavy and you can damage it if anything is not done right. The engine dosent need to be messed with.
