Default Scion tC vs. Toyota Celica?

I'm looking to buy a car soon (the very first vehicle I will actually purchase and own myself!) and right now I've narrowed it down between two cars: the Scion tC and the Toyota Celica. Currently what I'm looking at is an '05 Scion with 98k on it, and a '02 Celica GTS with 136k on it. There is, of course, a decent price difference between the two, with the Scion being more expensive. But, again, it is of course newer and has the fewer miles on it.

My question, however, is not as much between those two cars necessarily (though any feedback is great) as it is moreover on a general Scion tC vs. Toyota Celica comparison! General performance? Power? Handling? Customizing potential, performance and look-wise? Safety? Handling in the snow (with the whole winter thing going to be rearing its ugly head in a very short amount of time...)?

If there are any other things anyone wants to add, please feel completely free to do so! I have no experience with the Celica, though my cousin had the tC awhile back and we spent many a summer day driving around in it -- I just was not a driver at the time, and payed very little attention to details back then, other than remembering that I very much liked it.

Also, safety is a huge factor for me, as I will be getting married in the near future, and staying alive is a big part of marriage, from what I hear.

Thanks very much!

The Scion has a bigger motor with more horsepower. They are both Toyotas.
