Default How many miles on a Scion tC is too many?

I'm looking to buy my first car, and I've decided on a Scion tC. The problem is, being a student, my budget is limited. Of course, I'd like to get as new a vehicle as I can get in terms of year (i.e. an '05-'08), but the balancing act comes in finding a vehicle that doesn't have 120-140k miles but is still in my budget. The main question I am asking is how many miles is too many to buy a "new" car? In particular, the Scion tC. I know they have Toyota engines, which is definitely a plus, but I've heard things from they start to become almost worthless around 150k to outlandish things like people saying they'll keep on going in the 300k+ range. Which, I know that while the miles are important what also factors in hugely is how well the car was taken care of and how it was driven and maintained, etc. So I'm shooting for 100k, but if I ended up having to buy one that is higher in that aforementioned range, my question is if I would be buying a car that is towards the end of death row.

Just matters how the motor has been treated.. Ask about the timing belt, that you change every 80,000 miles if they say they did it, ask for receipt.. if no receipt move on. look at the oil dipstick and hope theres no metal shavings (you gotta wipe oil on your fingers and look for metal real close) , i've seen toyotas with over 500+ miles but have been always kept up with maintenance, you can take the car to any local shop they should do a free inspection.. but dont take it to your local tire shop that do mechanic work they dont know what they are doing... nor firestone, nor nta ... or dealerships...
