======
Enter the term hypermile in Google and you'll get lots of links.
Mileage imcreases with reduced engine demand - lower speed, slower
acceleration, more coasting, higher tire presseure, -- one has to
balance high mileage driving against consideration for other drivers
and safety. Best to strike a balance, go easy when posssible without
overdoing it.
Regarding high mileage Toyota, you can probably get 50 mpg from a
Yaris if you work at it.

Best case, 34 mpg in two of 42 round trips of 980 miles from Austin to New
Orleans. Worst case, 26 mpg (carrying a 17' kayak on top) in a 2000 Camry
XLE v6. Average speed all trips: 70-75 mph. Tire pressure, wind direction
and speed, condition of motor oil, fuel octane/alcohol ratios, traffic and
road conditions plus hundreds of other factors affect actual mpg on long
trips.

Honestly, this car is the best of over 16 I've owned and driven millions of
miles.

I got 36 to 37 with mixed driving (1/4 city but fast city driving 1/2
of the time). There were a couple of 270-miletrips I got 39MPG to
44MPG. I'm not sure how accurate it was because the destination is
lower in sea level (over Appalachian mountain to the East coast).
There were a lot of up and down hills, and I cruised most of the time
when going down. I'm satisfied considering this is a 1994 Camry 4cyl
manual.
