Default brake light

My 97 Camry LE has the BRAKE light coming on and off. My wife says it
finally goes out when the car warms up. I drove it around yesterday
evening quite a bit but it never came on. This morning I took it to
work which is about 4 miles away and confirmed that it is indeed coming
on but it never stayed off. I checked the fluid level and it seems
fine. The brakes don't feel any different than normal. Any ideas?

I had to fiil mine to overflow to get it to shut off, also a bad bulb
or coroded electric contact with moisture at a light. But if brakes
dont seem 100% it could be the master cilinder. Id check all brake
lights when it goes on, and fill it up, then worry.

Don't worry about it. Just drive the car and see what happens eventually.

Coming from you I don't know how to take that bit of advice.

Think worst case scenario.

Joe knows even less about cars than BHO knows about being president...

Take Ransley's advice and make sure the reservoir is full. If it is, or if
the light doesn't go out after filling it or a very few miles, check the
condition on the parking brake.

Ooops...guess we missed the little detail about "I checked the fluid
level and it seems fine."

Look at the parking brake, then. I had a '78 Corolla that did the same
thing. Had to adjust the switch under the brake handle.

The Parking Brake activates the light on/off when used.

Right. But mine (actually, on two cars, IIRC) left the light on. In the
winter the light would stay on until the pass. compartment warmed up, and
then the light would go off.
