Default synthetic oil and leaks

Interesting.

'99 Camry (wife's car) has 90k miles. Was thinking of synthetic but
was afraid it would suddenly leak like a sprinkler when the synthetic
cleans all the gunk around the seals. Now maybe I'll just do it...

We switched our '95 Camry to synthetic blend in '99 with no
problems. It had 99k miles on it at the time. I think it depends most on
two things: the amount of gunk in the seals and the composition of the
seals. Japanese cars seem less prone to leaks developing than, say,
Volvos from the '80's.
