Default Domestic quality and service

It would appear that the primary cause of the foriegn brands
popularity is a plethora of service to a vehicle , "above and beyond
"that which the domestic brands deliver.

It also would appear to me that the Detroit 3 have once again missed
the mark

They seem to be concentrating on MPG and not on quality of product.

Not once have I heard or read of a new Detroit 3 vehicle being in
comparable or BETTER quality (bythe manufacturer)than the foriegn
brands mentioned on here. Its all mileage mileage , mileage.

And as a case in point ? I have driven everyrthing from Nash to
Studebaker and the Detroit 3 + foriegn brands and with ALL of them the
dealer service was much more personal and concerned with the foriegn
brands rather than the domestic.

And as far as quality is concerned ? I have had a GM truck which in 3
years of non-work related driving ; the timing chain went-rocker
panels rusted out (dealer rustproofed) the differential went belly up
the tranny cooler leaked into the radiator and vice versa, and all this
in three years of commuter no work driving.all less than 50,000 miles
of driving.

I bought a Ford half-ton 289 with 1200 miles on it . In less than 8000
miles the computer (on the distributor)went , the front end went, the
front disk brake siezed, the air pump went, all in no work driving and
using the truck only three months of the year .

A Canadian Ford dealer wanted , at the time ,over $300.00 + labor and
taxes to change the air pump.

I went to the US, bought a new air pump for about $36.00 US at an auto
supply house , put it on in the parking lot with a new belt as well
and returned the old pump to the auto supply house for a $10.00 US
refund. It took me about a half hour all told .

This was the primary reason I went foriegn and still am driving an `02
Camry-4-140,000 klms.

The ONLY unusual repairs I have done on this is repair the A/C system
at a cost of just over $500.00 Canadian.(the part was expensive ,
yes )

Other than twice a year oil changes every 5000 miles, (Mobil 1 yellow
Cap)and tire rotations I have done nothing else to this car except
change the antifreeze (Normal maintenance)

This car is driven 50-50 highway and city driving

I bought this car USED with 95,000 klms on it as well /
