As you may have heard, southern California has endured massive brush
fires lately. After nearly a week of falling ash, I pulled out the
cabin filter in my '03 Corolla. YUCK! Truely amazing amount of
powdery crap in the filter .... one that I replaced only 10k miles
ago.

Well, close, they showed up in some 200 models, but 2002 in the Camry.
;-) But either way, as we stated, non existant in 97.

Oh, and for those who have them and dont want it, you can pullout the
tray, remove it, reinstall the tray and you have the old system.

NOT A CHANCE!! For all the airborne ash from numerous brush fires
this past week, I'll keep mine in. I pulled the filter out yesterday
and .... YUCK! Nearly all the pleats were filled with ash! And
that filter has only been installed for the last 10k miles too.
Carefully blew it out with compressed air. Oh BTW, either Fram or
Purolator lists this air filter in their catalog now.

Philip, you going to be OK down there? No chance of fires taking you off
line? Or making you homeless? As fof Fram, yeah, they wont pass up an
opportunity to make some $$$. This cabin filter is a conspiracy by "big
filter" ;-) They do work nicely

We're in no danger.

Rick, at the moment, the wife and I are mulling over the Death Valley
trip. Due to the sharp cooling trend, rain, and snow above 5,000
feet last night, if I take the motorcycle the wife won't go. If she
talks me into taking the Corolla, she'll go. Decisions decisions.
It's a chilly 52 degrees and cloudy now. Weather Channel reports 46
degrees in DV and quite windy. This is typical this time of year and
..... I'm not real enthusiastic about the exposure (look up Raynaud's
Syndrome). Time for a cup of coffee and a bagel... think this
through.

Well, we just got our first snowfall of the year. Grandkinds are all
bundled up and playing in it as I write this. No chance of fires here
anymore. In fact, I've been deer hunting in the fall here and I couldnt
start a fire with anything I tried, gas, oil, propane torch, when I did
get it going, it just smoldered and stunk, so I gave up, went inside the
trailer and turned on the heat. ;-)
