Default 99 Camry factory radio issues!!!

Ok, my '99 Camry just starting acting up. I still have the factory radio with a disc changer in the trunk. Recently when its hot outside the dash will heatup and I guess the deck gets too hot? The radio will turn on (i.e. - power on, change stations, etc.) but no sound will come out. After a few days of this (and cooler weather) it works fine. I've been to a few car audio/stereo shops who simply scratch their heads. I've got a friend who has a '97 Camry with an upgraded deck that does the same thing. I've checked under the seats, no amp. I'm thinking that by just getting a new radio it won't fix the problem since her car is doing the same thing

Any ideas?? I'd love to keep the equipment I have and just replace a fuse or something. Those stores also tell me my disc changer is too old and wouldn't work with any current decks. I'm screwed anyway you look at

Any information or insight into what could be causing this would be greatly appreciated!!

Default Re: 99 Camry factory radio issues!!!

I've a somewhat different problem with the radio in my '99 Camry. The AM
portion of the radio misbehaves every time I go over a bump. It crackles and
you can hardly hear the broadcasting. Last week, when it rained, the
problem was worse. No such problem with the FM portion of the radio. I've
been tempted to replace the existing radio with a newer model and perhaps
the problem will go away but I can't be sure. Could the problem be the
wiring in the AM portion of the radio? Could the problem be the AM portion
of the antenna? Thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Best, MR
