Default Noise Camry 4 cyl vs 6 cyl

I am planning to buy a 2006 Camry in the next few months. I was
planning to buy a 6 cyl version because I like the way my 6 cyl Sienna
takes freeway hills (the Cajon or San Gregorio Passes) at 75 mph with
the A/C on. (the Sienna is quiet and doesnąt lose speed whereas my late
4 cyl Corolla was noisy and lost speed)

The extra fuel economy makes the 4 cyl Camry attractive but not if
performance is reduced to the Corolla levels. (Yes I know that speed
and fuel economy are inconsistent attributes).

Any one with a 4 cyl recent Camry want to share their experience.

My 2000 Camry 4cyl with 3 people aboard and AC on does not lose power going
over the rolling hills here in Texas.
If I get behind slow traffic half way up a hill, I can go around and
accelerate up the hill, not breaknecking but adequate and always quiet.
The 06' 4cyl has a few more HP.

-HTH

I'll second that for my '02 4-cyl Camry. Plenty of power, and 33 miles
per gallon. But - it IS very noisy (especially when its cold outside).
And it is getting a little noisier every year.

Clackety clackety clackety clack....

My 99 Camry SIX is quiet. Always has been. Time for you to move on up.

Hoo hoo,

My '94 6-cyl has a little lifter noise when cold at idle, but snarls at the
opposition when planting the foot at the lights. I run it on 98 octane.

It's such fun. I allow myself one antisocial moment each week. I got beaten
by a Subaru WRX but that was the only time.

Probably wouldn't affect you, but my primary affection for the four
cylinder is easier access for mechanical work - valve cover gaskets,
spark plugs, etc.
If you're going to do your own maintenance work it does make a
difference.

The '06 four cylinder Camry has larger displacement plus variable valve
timing which adds power and smoothness beyond what the older Corolla
had.
Drive both and select your preference. The six will always have more
power.

Where do you get 98 octane?
