Default Front Brake Job

Replacing the front brake pads on my '99 Camry 4 cyl. and figure this
time I should lubricate the caliper slide pins - with what?? Toyota
Manual says "lithium soap based glycol grease",one Dealer says COPASLIP
(high temperature antisieze, which I presently only use for the pad
shims), another dealer says Silicone lubricant such as Sil Glide.

Totally different compounds and wonder if they are compatible with
stuff put on at factory or if this must be fully wiped off? (hard to do
when the holes the pins slide into are dead ends}. A simple job
shouldn't be so hard!

Thnx for any info.

Allan

"lithium soap based glycol grease" Does this stuff even exist? Toyota
has been recommending it since at least 1972. But I've never found
anything that matches the description. Is it only available in Japan?

Use only lube desgined for brake systems. Try the Permatex Ultra Disc
Brake Caliper Lube. Individual packs over-the-counter is about $1 each.

Toyota's glycol grease? Sounds like 19-century stuff. I use synthetic
gel brake lube from Permatex.

BTW, Sil Glide is more of an assembly lube for rubber parts. Some use
it to rebuild calipers but I think brake lubes like the Permatex one is
better for the purpose stated.
