Default 1993 toyota camry

I have spent alot of money trying to fix a strange problem with my car. This
does not happen all the time but when it does it wont go away for the whole
day. When I drive the car will all the suddenly bog (it will not turn off) I
can hit the gas all the way down and the car will not go. (its not a
transmission type of problem) My mechanic thought it was the fuel pump but
its not that or the fuel filter. Because it doesnt happen all the time its
hard to show some one the problem. If It happens I cant get the car to
accelarate fast enof so it would take me forever to get to a mechanic. I have
already replaced the catalitic (the first mechanic thought thats what it was)

You replaced the air filter every now and then, right?

There isn't any debris in the air filter housing, is there?

I bought a '99 camry recently, was puzzled about poor gas mileage,
looked inside the air filter housing... it was full of LEAVES and even
a small plastic Doritos bag!

How embarrassing I did not find that earlier.

Other than the air filter... how about the distributor cap and rotor?
Changed the spark plugs every 30,000 miles? Throttle body plate
cleaned with throttle plate cleaner? (maybe it was stuck?)

Try checking the cheap stuff first (air filter, spark plugs, etc.)
working your way up...

Good luck!

You mean it will idle but not acelerate, id say its electrical. A real
problem on old camrys is the ignition coil, does it happen on wet days,
usualy just cleaning the coil fixes it but the distributor O ring leaks
oil as it gets old coating the coil then it shorts out when it is
warming up. A loose or carcked distributor cap makes it worse. Will it
get better after sitting with a hot motor for an hour, either way clean
the coil a 20 minute job, use alcohol on a rag.
