engine noise

Default engine noise

hey everyone, i have a 2007 toyota corolla ce and when it cold starts
it makes a pulsating noise that sounds like a grinding or "shushing"
noise. its not getting any worse and as this is the first winter i've
had it i dont have another cold season to compare it to.. any
suggestions or ideas?

Manual or automatic?

You'll have to rig up some noise pipes/sticks
and track the noise down. IE: a piece of PVC
pipe makes a decent stethoscope for trying to
narrow it down.
The first thing I would be suspecting would
be bearings in whatever.. Belt tensioner, belt,
alternator bearings, etc.. But there is only
one way to find it and that's to listen real
carefully.
