Default Front end vibration!

Hey guys, no politics this time......;0)

I have a 1996 Toyota tercel 2 door.

Recently my mechanic informed me that my right front strut is pretty
much blown out. I do feel the vibration all the way through the car if I
hit a bump or something. While this is not the vibration I'm speaking of
I can feel the weakness in the strut.

If my car is idle in *park* I do not feel or hear this vibration. Once I
put it in gear, with my foot on the brake, it starts to vibrate, my
front end that is. At a light stop or stop sign same thing, if I slip it
in neutral waiting for light for example it stops vibrating.

Is this more than likely the *strut* or maybe something else?

Thanks guys.

Makes me wonder if the motor mounts are getting sloppy,
or maybe even kaput.. I wouldn't think a strut would effect
vibration when sitting still. It would be like a bad shock
absorber when moving, and still shouldn't really cause a
vibration. Or I wouldn't think anyway.. I'd be looking at
the motor mounts pretty close.

Yesterday I'd had an interesting moment actually looking at my hood. It
appears the right side vibrates more than the left side. Motor mounts is
definately something I don't want to hear right now......;0)

I remember when my wife smashed up her car and we were looking at the
repair and I noticed something about the engine, I got in put it in
drive foot on the brake I hit the gas and the engine lurched up, turns
out they never changed the damaged mounts. I guess it's time for a test,
hopefully it's just my hood vibrating so I'll open it while in drive and
foot on brake, if the vibration doesn't occur i wonder if I can assume
its just the hood?

Any way to test the mounts stability?
