NM5K, you are right: It is the positive battery terminal clamp.
The clamp was slightly loose because it has weakened. Although clean
and with the bolt tight, the clamp will move slightly if twisted.
Pressure from the cable which pulls down the side of the battery was
keeping the clamp in light contact with the terminal post.
