The reason people buy new is for the "New Car Smell".

I bought my 99 Camry NEW in 99. I still have it. I plan to STILL
have it for another 4 years. It is NOT foolish to buy a vehicle new
when one keeps it for "life". That makes depreciation totally
irrelevant. One gets the new car smell WITHOUT being hosed by the
sudden loss in value the moment the car leaves the lot.

Exactly. We kept our Camry until it had 280K on the odometer, then
gave it to our tenant's daughter for her first car. It's still getting
her to school.

My 04 Sienna purchased in Sept 03 is still going strong and runs like
the day she was driven off the new car lot. I don't have any plans to
get rid of her, I nicknamed her Hillary.

I like the way an old car smells.

I might trade her in for a new and better looking model with a new model
smell. The old girl has bags and drooping headlights with fart stinky
seats.
