Default Prius is the quietest car

We know this to be the case as Congress and the President passed a law
to put noise makers on them. This in spite of the Prius having one of
the lowest insurance costs in its class and half the national average
of fatal accidents.

Quiet and safety, it will take a couple of years before the
regulations forcing noise makers on the Prius take effect. In the
meanwhile, the quiet Prius remains on sale.

Quiet, mine is. Cheap to insure, it is not.

?????

I pay under $500/year for full coverage, including $500 deductible
comprehensive and uninsured motorist.

Cheap to insure, it is.

I paid about $1200/year but my deductible is only $100.

Why so low? That's a fool's game.

Get a quote for a $500 deductible, and figure out how often you'll need
to come up with that extra $400.

Since all auto insurance companies I ever dealt with only offered 6
months, not 1 yr payments at most, and all price comparisons I ever saw
were based on 6 months premiums, I have a suspicion this is a 6 month
premium you're talking about - when people (here in US anyway) think about
auto insurance cost, they tend to think in terms of a 6 months premium
costs - the most common basis.

Anyway, I've been paying something like $500/6 months (also $500
deductible) for the Prius since 2006. When you insure two cars, it's hard
to tell exactly what the portion of each is 'cause your liability is only
calculated once, but $500/6mos was just about it for Prius.

And then my teenagers became of driving age and any talks about car
insurance costs suddenly have no relation to the cars' make/model/year
whatsoever...

I took my $238/6 months and bumped it into a yearly sum.

The "under $500" is a yearly premium.

". . . the February 2011 Relative Collision Insurance Cost Information
Booklet provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
(NHTSA) . . ."

"Four-Door Models 117

Toyota Prius Hybrid 99"

Within its class the Prius is in the more affordable, lower half.
