Default Weird dashboard display and can't drive for 3 minutes while AC fans blows FULL

Hi, to anyone still here. Anyone else have weird times starting their
Prius?

Every 3-4 months, I start my 2007 Prius by pushing the button and
holding my foot on the brake as normal. Normal start procedure.

Instead, the AC fan comes on FULL BLAST w/o cooling, every light on
the dashboard will light including a large red triangle in the left
lower corner of the dash, all of which stay light and does not flash.

While this is happening, I can shift but not engage the drive, I
cannot shut off the vehicle, holding down the start button will not
shut down the vehicle. In effect, the car just sits in that state. I
cannot see the green light shining on the brake button, so I dare not
get out of the vehicle in case it decides to surge.

I have even tried inserting the key remote in its dash receptacle but
that gains me nothing. Car still running crazy.

After about 3 minutes, I can push the start button, hold it a few
seconds, and the car is "off"

Then I "reboot" the car by pushing the start button and holding my
foot on the brake as normal...and I drive away.

What is going on? Is the car venting itself? Batteries look fine. No
further warning signs. Acts perfectly normal until a few months later
and it happens again. Beats me. Dealer can't find anything so I've
learned to just accept being stranded every couple of months.

I ONCE had a problem with my car acting up when I initially purchased
it. It was hot in Texas (like way over 110 outside) that 2007 and the
dash acted the same: all light up with the steady red triangle and the
AC fan only blowing full blast. Had to wait 10 minutes while hot
outside air circulated. Finally was able to "turn off" the car and
restart and drive away. Nothing like that happened again for years
and years.

Is this a bug or a feature? LOL

you can ALWAYS push and hold the start button, and after several seconds
the car will shut off.

Even if you're driving down the road.

Whatever behavior you're seeing, this has nothing to do with it.

Troll. Except it doesn't during this type of incident that happens
every couple of months. Try reading. I clearly said that DOESN'T
work. Why are you so deliberately stupid? Oh, right, you're a troll.

Troll. I wasn't. As I clearly stated. Try answering a situation
instead of flying off to something else because you don't know but
have to run your yapping piehole.

>

Troll. No one said it did. The vehicle runs "wild" as described even
if I don't touch the start button during the entire 3 minutes after I
first push start.

You useless Troll. What part of:

"After about 3 minutes, I can push the start button, hold it a few
seconds, and the car is "off""

escapes your reading comprehension? That means for 3 minutes, the car
accepts no user input so what does that mean? That means that holding
the start button to initiate a shutdown will not work. That's right!

And obviously I was not riding down the road if as I said, I could not
get it in gear. I read the manual. I know you SHOULD always be able
to hold in on the start button and initiate the shut down procedure
even if you are driving it down the road.

Why don't you try answering a question that IS asked next time?

Why don't you try NOT answering a question that ISN'T asked?

Why don't you drop the BS and your natural need to be a troll and
simply shut the **** up if you don't know the answer to a question.

No one comes here to have a cowardly stupid jackass troll like you
berate them simply because you have no life and are too retarded to
cheerfully give the correct answer or hold your tongue if you don't
know. That's what normal people do. You? You are one sick puppy and
you've done it for years.

No one comes here any more because of jackasses like you. On a web
forum, you 'd be banned for life.

I know it will kill you knowing you are back in my kill file and my
bozo bin.

Goodbye Troll.

right.

And you're telling us 100% exactly what's going on.

Got it.

Shitdick. That wasn't my point. The Prius will ALWAYS turn itself off
when you hold the power button down for several seconds, even if you're
driving down the road. Therefore, it will turn itself off sitting in
your garage if you perform that behavior.

Yet your story is that the Prius gets itself into such a state that
holding the power button does NOT turn it off--and that's bullshit from
a shitdick.

Shitdick. It means that I don't believe that part of your story.

Shitdick. It means you're not actually holding it down long enough.

> And obviously I was not riding down the road

Shitdick. Nobody said you were. Your comprehension abilities are
clearly limited. I merely said that holding the power button down
ALWAYS turns the car off, even if you're driving down the
road--therefore you're not doing it right.

You're probably being impatient and not holding the power button down
long enough the first few tries, and then after about three minutes you
say to yourself "all RIGHT, THIS time I'll HOLD THE ****ING BUTTON DOWN
LONGER" and you end up providing the correct input.

Stabbing at the power button and holding it down for a second and a
half, which is probably WAY past your attention span, is not long enough
to force a shutdown. Forced shutdown takes longer.

Shitdick.

You hate having it revealed that you're not doing it right, and you just
want mommy to tell you you're perfect and that the big bad world is out
to get you, eh?

Shitdick.

And "intermittent" is not the issue even when "Intermittent" is in the
subject line.

Troll? M,.aybe. Abuser? Definitely. He wants the situation to be what he
wants it to be, no matter the facts are, then he resorts to typical abuser
tactics, insults and name calling, to prove his point. In reality he is
only demonstrating he is an abuser.

In Dilbert, they have Mordac, the Preventer of Information Services.

There are two ugly trolls who haunt this newsgroup chasing off anyone
who posts: first this nasty guy and then the biteyourheadofflesbian.

Both are the first to respond to EVERY post, drag the topic way off
base to glorify their ego, and strut off claiming moral superiority
and secret arcane knowledge which they never can actually demonstrate.
They both live in my killfile now.

Back to the issue: I had the identical problem happen one last time.
This time, vehicle would not return to normal. So, I examined things
while my vehicle was "idling" with the AC fan running. The only thing
that would respond was the power windows. Strangely, the power door
lock buttons would not lock or unlock though they made a half hearted
noise.

I laughed as it occurred to me that opening the door and leaving the
vehicle did nothing so I did the only thing left. I hit the horn.

Apparently, in this mode, pressing the horn turns off the AC fan. Must
have some protocol of power savings allowance.

So I called the dealership and the service department said, "Aha, you
have a low 12 car battery." Duh! Gave me instructions for jump
starting the vehicle.

Thought it weird that the hood prop rod dangled over the open box of
fuses. Bad design. But I charged it for15 minutes. Initially
claimed that I had 7.4 volts on the car start battery. Wow! Got the
car to start, drove it to the dealership.

Then I was shocked to hear them quote a few hundred dollars to change
out a "custom" Prius battery. There goes my fuel savings but it was
4:15pm on a Saturday night and I needed my car for the weekend.

Maybe this will help someone else. Turns out that mileage-wise, the
battery was covered but it was six months out time-wise.

Moral: Take the Prius to the shop when it acts up. It's a killer in
the Southern US right now. Like 109 yesterday. Where's that solar
Prius with eternal lithium batteries that won't explode in a laptop or
cell phone?
