When Lee Ki-sang, head of Hyundai Motor Group's Eco Technology Center, got the official EPA ratings on Hyundai's new Ioniq Hybrid, he thought a celebration was in order. The car edged its archrival, the Toyota Prius, and the hybrid's Ioniq Electric sibling topped battery-powered rivals with its miles- per-gallon-equivalent score.
