Default Denny Hamlin Wins at Pocono in NASCAR?s Sunday Triple Header

The No. 11 driver made his final pit stop with less than 20-laps to go in the event and returned to the track in prime position to hold the lead. “He’s (Chris Gabehart, crew chief) just unbelievable. He’s done a great job with this race team. This is work that happens in the shop, this is way beyond what happens on race day,” Hamlin said. “I was just hoping for no cautions, I knew we had the car. I was just maintaining my gap right there and didn’t want to make any mistakes like I did at Bristol and threw that win away. I just tried to work through the traffic as best I could and obviously Chris (Gabehart) is paying attention to strategy there and made the right call.” Denny Hamlin Teammate Erik Jones scored his best finish of the 2020 season, bringing his Camry home third. “Yeah, today was a lot better than yesterday for sure. It’s great to rebound like that,” Jones said. “Unfortunately, I think we could have – definitely could have had two top-fives, and really, I think our primary car was quite a bit better than this car. I thought we could have probably contended both days a little more towards the win if we had our primary, but the Craftsman Camry was good.” Martin Truex Jr. finished the day in the 10th position, while Kyle Busch and Christopher Bell both suffered accidents ending their days early. The duo earned 38th and 39th-place finishes. The NASCAR Cup Series heads to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the 26th annual Brickyard 400. Coverage begins at 4:00 PM ET on NBC and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
