Default Kalitta Leads the Charge as NHRA Returns

Kalitta began the 2020 season with his third straight Winternationals victory in Pomona, California, which vaulted him to the top spot in the point standings. He followed that with a runner-up finish in Phoenix as the five-time championship runner-up looks to finally earn his elusive first title. Kalitta currently leads the championship standings by 59 points as he heads to Indianapolis – a track he won at in 2019. Antron Brown has been reunited with his championship winning crew chief, Brian Corradi, and early on, the improvement was noticeable. Brown drove to a semi-final finish in Phoenix and currently sits seventh in the point standings.

Shawn Langdon completes the full-time Toyota Top Fuel contingent as the 2013 Top Fuel Champion made a return to the class beginning the 2020 season. Langdon sits eighth overall after two events. Toyota will have a fourth Top Fuel Dragster in Indianapolis as the record-setting, eight-time Top Fuel champion Tony Schumacher will make a return to the circuit for the first two events – both of which are in Indianapolis. The 10-time U.S. Nationals winner will be back behind the driver’s seat for the first time since the completion of the 2018 NHRA season. In Funny Car, Alexis DeJoria made a triumphant return to NHRA racing with a semi-final finish in Pomona to kick off the season. DeJoria is currently eighth overall in the series standings. The 2018 Funny Car Champion, J.R. Todd, is looking for his first round win of the season – and heads back to a perfect track for him to do that. The two-time U.S. Nationals winner has advanced to at least the semi-finals in every race he’s competed in at Lucas Oil Raceway since moving to Funny Car. The return to NHRA action begins July 11 and 12 at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis. NHRA action is broadcast on the FOX Sports channels, but an exact time and channel has not been officially unveiled.
