how do you know if your supra is 1986 or 1986.5?

Default how do you know if your supra is 1986 or 1986.5?
im thinking of getting a toyota supra.off of craigslist......without talking with the seller.How can i know if the car is a 86 or a 86.5..engine?body?.whats the difference?

Please DO NOT make the mistake that many have in trying to purchase a vehicle from C'slist - too many ripoffs and problems, including "sellers" robbing buyers at gunpoint...stay away !!

Agreed. Buyer Beware on craigslist. Ask for the VIN number. After 1981.The year is ALWAYS the 10th digit. The engine code is the 8th digit. The body code will be the 4th and 5th numbers. The difference in 86, and 86.5 engine? That doesn't really make sense. Considering the car can be an 86 or 87. There are not .5 yrs. The VIN is the only way. If you are wondering if it is the Gen II or III. Check for a third brake light on the hatch. If its there, then its a 86 or newer. Without the VIN there is no way of knowing.

86 (mkII) is square. mkIII is rounded.if they have a picture. you will eventually need to talk to the seller. unless by "getting" you mean finding a car on craigslist and stealing it.































and to chris h.- there are indeed half years. known as a mid year introduction.
