Hi, You may be able to fit a 2TZ-FE 2.4 liter engine that was in the first generation of the Toyota Previa/Estima. The first generation Previa has the same mid-engine layout as the Cargo Van / Wonderwagon.
A problem to investigate thoroughly first would be the fuel injection and engine control computer. The system in your van may not be able to handle the newer engine. In that case you will also have to update the engine control and fuel system too.
If you want to really take on a major task, you could find other Toyota engines to fit, but the really BIG problem is the engine oiling system.
The Toyota 3Y-E, 4Y-E and 2TZ-FE are all designed to run with the engine laying over on it's side by 90 degrees. The oil pan, oil pump and oiling system are specially designed for these sideways running engines.
If you want more power out of your current engine, you may be able to more cheaply add power by changing the intake and exhaust system or even adding a supercharger or turbocharger.
Good luck and have safe fun.
