If purchased in a state that follows California's emissions regulations, it has a full (not pro-rated) warranty of 150,000 miles or 10 years, whichever comes first.

That's the WARRANTY.

That does NOT mean that it will immediately fail at 151,000 miles or 11 years, no more than any other car's transmission (or other major components) will fail the instant the warranty expires.

Not enough Prius batteries have failed yet to be able to give a conclusive longevity estimate.

Pinball_Fan is correct. We don't know the MTBF (mean time between failures) of the traction battery because there are not enough Prius out there with 300,000 to 400,000 miles on them.

The traction battery lifetime is really a non-issue in the Prius, my 2001 is still on the original battery and doing just fine. The later generation Prius have even better batteries than the 2001 does.

The Prius takes exceptional care of it's battery with an advanced battery management system. It never lets the battery get too low or too high. In addition the cost of the battery has reduced every year and there are places that rebuild the batteries as well (Fortunately, they rebuild batteries for vehicles other than the Prius or they wouldn't be in business).

Not long enough. If you save the money you save on gas then you might have enough to buy new battery's when they go out.
