As long as the key doesn't have one of those anti-theft devices on the metal part, you can get it done at the hardware store. The anti-theft things look like a small, black plastic oval.
Depends on how old you Corolla is. My 88 - no problem. My 05 - sorry, there is a chip in it that needs to have the right frequency to activate the ignition. Check with a dealer to see if your model has the chip since you didn't mention your model year. A new key can cost $125.
More and more stores are making 'chip' keys. these keys are manufactured with a lock out to the gas line or ignition so that the car will not start if the key does not supply the right code. My ninety nine Avalon has a chip key that must be replaced by a chip key. There are places besides the dealer that a person can get them made. It kinda depends on your corrolla. See if it is a chip key.
I would try -wish123.com-also. It can link your question to experts in the field who give you exact complete answer. I asked some questions and received excellent experts feedback. Hope that helps.
