It is a manual 5 speed but when i try to place it in 4th gear it clashes, and Im forced to skip from 3rd to 5th gear. And if I can manage to get it in 4th it pops out of gear. Help!
Im not sure what they are..but there are synchroids which help you put the stick in gear, those may be out, you just may have 4th gear out. Its an older car it may need new parts or just may be going out.
somebody banged a gear too hard, you have a broken gear, and the only way to fix it is to rebuild the transmission, either get used to skippin the gear, if you can, or rebuild the transmission, this is about the only thing you can do
bent fork in the transmission. really cheap part but u got to take the whole tranny apart to replace it. and stop using 4th gear all the time. all your doing is getting rotten gas mileage and wearing out your engine more than wats is needed. not to mention the constant jerking motion on your clutch and drive train. u dont have to be a race car driver everywhere u go. take the slow and steady approach all toyotas during that year should be able to do 5th gear just fine above 35MPH unless your on a hill. here is how i do city driving in my 1986 5speed. red light to green. 1st then 3rd unless in heavy stop and go traffic ill just keep uit in first or second. then 4th and if nothing is in front of me ill go to 5th.
