If this is a second generation MR2, it would probably be less work to get the whole new engine. That way, you could just unbolt the old one and bolt the new one in (well, and take care of some of the wiring and computer details, too). With a turbo conversion, you'd have to unbolt a bunch of bits and pieces, then deal with tuning an engine that may not run at its best on either the stock computer or a factory turbo computer. Used turbo engines are almost as cheap as turbo kits, too.
If it's a first generation MR2 or an MR2 Sypder, there is no easy bolt in turbo engine. So it would often be easier to turbo the engine you have now. My boss has a first generation MR2 where he turbocharged the stock engine.
