you connect your timing light to your battery,then the lead goes on the #1 spark plug ,make sure you have slightly loosened the bolts securing the distributor do not remove them just barely loosen them allowing you to gently twist the distributor. once this is done crank up the truck and let it idle while it is idling squeeze the trigger on the timing light and watch the mark on the balancer . the settings should be on a sticker on the underside of the hood. if you cant see the marks on the balancer clean it with some carb cleaner spray and make a chalk mark in the groove on the balancer. hope this helps you out. if you are talking about the timing of the timing chain and set better go buy a chilton or hayes manual cause that would be a lengthy ordeal. good luck
