problem with 1996 toyota tacoma?

The back up lights on my tacoma aren't working so i replaced the bulbs, and they still aren't working. What would you do next to fix the problem? Is it something fairly simple that I could do myself, such as changing bulbs, or would a mechanic be better?

if you changed the bulbs and they backup lights still don't work, changing the bulbs again will probably still not work. Check the fuse.

well if the bulbs dont work then you have a blown fuse witch is very cheap and easy what you gotta do is get the owners manual and right under the steering wheel there is a fuse box somewhere open that up and look for the one that goes to the rear lights. If that isnt the right one there is a fuse box under the hood called the power distribution box witch should have it. when you get the right one just put the new fuse in the spot and it should work. message me if it doesnt work

OK after replacing the bulbs with new ones,and checking the concerned fuse ,if all ok ,then it would be the switch which sends the signal,and it is located on the transmision body,and the way to check the switch is to disconnet the two wires and short them,something a mechanic would need to do.But which ever way you look at it ,it should not cost you much to fix at a mechanic shop.

If you had a trailer hitch put on it a lot of times i see wires that are pulled loose or messed up from the trailer wiring.
