Default 1983 Toyota Cressida differential noise. This car is in pristine condition with only 62,000 miles?
It was owned by an elderly couple but did not get serviced much. There seems to be a grinding noise coming from the Differential. It seems worst if I am at any speeed and I let off the accelerator a little bit. It almost sounds like a wheel bearing sounds when it is bad, but it is not a wheel bearing. It also is like the sound of dragging break or something like that. It is in the diiff for sure though,. I just have no better way to explain it































We have heard this noise for a long time and it seems to be getting a little worse. It is still does not worry me so much that I would not take it on a trip of 1000 miles or so































A guy who fixes these things actually said ''why don't you wait until it gets worse'' We were out of town traveling and had new shocks put on and I asked at the shop for advice. They pointed us to a shop acrosss the street where this advice was given.































there is plenty of fluid in the differential too.































Any answers out there will be appreciated thanks John

it could need a differential fluid flush. also the teeth on the gears in the differential should be inspected for any chips or scraches because these can cause noise. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL IT GETS WORSE.

this should be a rear wheel drive if i'm not mistaken. get the rear end done asap why would you want to wait any longer because it will mean more damage and more $$$

You want this repaired on your schedule not when you are 500 miles from home and have to use whatever shop is nearby.































This could be pricey so it may be worth having the fluid flushed out and replaced to see if any contaminates are in it.































You may need to consult a dealer to see what other models the Cressida shared parts with and get one from a wrecking yard to have it rebuilt before you have this one removed.
