I have 98 corrolla that has 200K. I've been noticing over the past 6 month my gas milage has been geting worse. I only get about 270 per gas tank. I used to get 350+
Amazing engines in Toyotas, even at 200,000 so I would guess you have not had a tune-up in a long time. Probably just a plug that is fowled so it is not firing completely and you might smell a little petrol at the exhaust, maybe even a little dark exhaust to demonstrate that not all the fuel is burning. Check the wires going to the plugs....maybe one is not tight. You don't have a serious problem.
get a tune up if due and get the injecters cleaned, not one that you pour into the tank but a good one from the dealership that actully cleans the injecters
check tire pressure 32lbs check air filter, fuel filter, plugs wires, clean throttle plate butterfly, get injectors cleaned, check exhaust for blockage like cat converter getting old and falling apart inside clogging up ,good luck
All these answers are good. I would also recommend that when you have the injectors cleaned at the dealership you also have them check the coolant temperature sensor to assure its accuracy. If it starts to read incorrectly the engine will run rich and use more fuel. These sensors tend to have problems at higher mileage, and you may not see any other symptom. Also, if the thermostat is sticking and your engine isn't warming up as normal, your mileage will drop as well.
