Default Best place to get old Toyota service?
Hi, I just got a used 1985 MR2 yesterday and I noticed that it has a lot of problems, like bad brakes, cylinder misfiring, coolant dirty, etc.. What would be the best place to get it serviced? Should I take it to a Toyota dealership or an independent mechanic? I live very close to a good dealership (Longo Toyota) and I've gone there for my Scion on a regular basis, but I wonder if maybe an independent mechanic would be best for an old car with special problems like mine. Thanks.

why would you bring your MR2 to a independent then the dealership? If anyone knows your Toyota better its the dealership. how did they do on your scion if they did good work why dont you stick with them for your MR2?

Because you know and trust the dealer I would use them. That said...If you knew a reliable independant mechanic I'd use him. The dealer will usually charge more...but they also USUALLY have mechanics trained in specific areas.































It's all about the trust and who you know. One reason I buy Toyota's is that I raely have to go to ANY mechanic. My Toyota dealer isn't so trustworthy and I've worked with some local guys in my courier business that I trust...I buy lots of tires and oil changes from them and they have an interest in preserving the long-term relationship.
