It does, where do you think Toyota got most if not all of its methods of planning, market research, product development and manufacturing ideas?
They were taken from Ford, Piggie Wigglie and Walmart.
It is just that in "Taking them to the next level" they found out why Ford spends more time in product development and testing.
One example of how Ford will not put a product into production a product that will not live up to consumer expectations is found in the history of the Ford flat head V8. In theory that engine did not need a oil pump. But road tests showed that the splash oil method would not work when the car was subject to a lot of swerving on the road. So instead of making the engines with out an oil pump, it was redesigned with one. The present problems with Toyota products were the result of the mindset that the odds of a failure were so low that litigation was cheaper then correction.
