On a newer Toyota is it possible to shut the engine off or shift the car into neutral or park?
This is related to the acceleration issue on some newer Toyotas.
Cant these people simply just shift these cars into neutral or even slam it into park to avoid crashing into something? Or maybe shut the engine off? I cant imagine just sitting in a out of control car and not trying to do something extreme to stop it.
I heard someone say that due to the modern design and computer controls of these newer Toyota and other cars its impossible to shift out of drive with the car moving, to avoid damaging the transmission. Is this true?
A word of advice to anyone who owns a Toyota, check to see if you can do this. Find yourself a large, empty parking lot. Drive a little bit and see if you can shift the car out of drive and into neutral while the car is moving. See if you can shut the engine down while the car is moving as well. Practice this for your own safety, just in case your cars accelerator does stick that you will know what to do.
