If it is truely bogging down (as opposed to skipping/misfiring) you most likely have a fuel filter clogging up (needs more fuel/fuel pressure under acceleration).Other than that possibly catalytic converter stopped up (but can/will give other/similar concerns when driving at steady speeds). If it is actually misfiring...look for a problem with secondary ignition system (spark plugs, plug wires,or coil)
one problem is the number 1988. Not so much the numbers, but the age old questions, what maintenance have you done to the car lately, fuel filter, plugs, air filter, all vacuum lines good. Go through the list.
Check ALL of your vacuum hoses throughout the transmission check your fuel management system. It could just be choking out. Also, start the basics. Replace the plugs, wires, and rotor cap. It may not be getting enough fire to ignite the gas in the combustion chamber.
