How do I start a '98 Camry LE after replacing the battery?
This car has an alarm but no remotes came with it when purchased. When the 12v battery was replaced the horn alarm sounds. How do we reset the alarm in a way that also enables starter? So far we have 1.turned on ignition-2.hold down valet button for 5sec.-3.remove key.
4.get out of car & lock door with key then unlock door with key.
Also we removed the 10A horn fuse so that our neighbors would not be bothered until the starting problem can be remedied...
My father and I found a solution after "Googling" many phrases. This must be done within 15 seconds. With the battery disconnected, person #1 sits in the car and turns the key to the 'on' position. Person #2 connects the battery and comes to the driver side door while Person #1 holds the vallet button for 5 seconds, takes the key out, hands it to #2. Person #2 quickly opens and shuts the driver door, locks the door with key, unlocks the door, opens the door, hands the key back to #1. Person #1 quickly starts the car.
The horns will be going off unless you unplug the 10v horn fuse located under the hood on the right side of the engine.
I want to send a shout-out to the Toyota serviceman who told me this could only be corrected by towing my car to the closest Toyota dealership and paying them to "reset the alarm". Thank you!
