that rules out an electrical problem. the problem could be with the starter/ignition-take it to a mechanic and get this checked. I go to Pep boys, it's relatively inexpensive.

CELINOID, STARTER. POINTS CONDENSER. ONE TIME A WIRE IN THE DISTRIBUTOR KEPT BREAKING CONTACT. MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED., ALSO COULD BE IGNITION SWITCH.

If you hear it click when you turn the key, then you need a new starter. No click then it may be the starter relay. Some cars the relay is built in to the starter. Replace starter and it fixes both problems. Mechanic knows for sure. Pushing car bypasses use of starter but can damage starter gear or flywheel. I assume that you have a standard transmission. Otherwise you'd need to get up to 20 or 30 mph to get started.
