That depends on a few things. One being how well the previous owner took care of it, and how they drove it. It will also depend on how you take care of it and drive it. If the vehicle has been properly maintained it can last quite sometime.
My boyfriend's dad has a 1981 Toyota Celica with a 22R in it, and it had close to 600,000 on it before he rebuilt it. It was still running fine when he rebuilt it, it had just started burning too much oil.
Most of my Toyota's have had over 250,000 miles on them, and I haven't had to rebuild one yet. I've had to replace a few parts here and there, biggest thing I've had to worry about was a clutch, and that's not expensive, just a little time consuming.
Just take care of it, and it should last you for quite sometime before you need a rebuild.
