Default Is it bad, in an automatic car (Toyota Camry '07 LE) , to use the 2, 3, 4 gears as if it was
a manual? My friend keeps doing it and I think he shouldn't because aren't those gears used for specified conditions? He says,"Oh, it helps me drive faster." Will his car blow up or something?

It will need a new tranny much quicker ands is very bad for car as a 4cylinder mid-size car is not for racing. If it had triptronic then he could use buttons but by shifting like you say he does will have to put upo cash as this kind of wear will not be covered by any warranty and a good mechanic will be ble to tell abuse. As for going faster it is more like it feels likeit is going faster. It would not surprise me if he did neutral drops to spin tires to show off too.

Absolutely.































Believe it or not, your friends transmission is smarter than he is and it knows when to shift. In fact I will bet that many times when he changes the gear manually the transmission does not react right away - because it is smarter than he is.































If he wants a manual transmission then he should get a car that has one, not pretend. Besides, at $4/gallon who needs to go faster?

I have an automatic civic but have never used the 2,3,4 gears, i occassionally use the sports button whilst on the motorway but that is quite rare as I don't normally even notice the difference, I've often wondered too why the gears are there, I think it's pointless....
