If the smoke is only in the morning it means it is just water vapor when the engine is cold. If the smoke is white to bluish grey then your burning oil. If it is black then the fuel mixture is too rich.

First of all, its smoke comeing out of the engine, leaving through the exhaust. Blue or gray colored smoke means your burning oil, black means your burning fuel. its probably oil through, and because its old, a little smoke when you first start up is no big deal, But if it does it while your driving, then that could be a bigger problem.

Could be a few reasons.

Your car is 13 years old probalbly time for a tune up. Change the Spark plus and wires, and air filter at the very least. If they are not firing right the fuel isn't getting burned right. Therefore, more smoke.

Another could be the fuel, with the prices rising have you changed you gas brand? There is definitly different quailty in the brands of fuel, their refining procedures and the detergents they add.

It might mean that your car is burning oil, due to engine wear.

If it is blue smoke you probably need valve seals or your oil is over filled

I owned a celica and you should check your oil to see if it looks muddy because you may have a blown head gasket. Not a lot for parts but labor is what you will pay for. It is worth looking into because normal condensation in your pipes will occur, and if you post this question, it is obvious to me that it may be a bit more than that. Good luck.
