...windows are later fitted for a van marketed by Toyota as a "superior $40K van", when in fact the finish is very inferior to all of its competion,

The price of all vans has gone thru the roof in the last few years, mainly because of increases in safety and comfort. If you want cheap go for a $20K mitsubishi, if you want high quality spend $60K on a mercedes Vito. Ultimately if you want a van that you can treat with no respect for the next 15 years, go the Toyota, it will take anything you throw at it, and still polish up to resell.
