this topic has been argued a lot of ways for a very long time. Present theory is that the thinner grades like 0-30 create less engine wear on engine start up by suppying oil pressure quicker with the thinner grade and causing less wear. Being an older car i would just use 5-30 in winter and 10-30 in summer. More importantly is the interval the oil is changed. Some say 7500 or 10,000 mile oil changes. If you watch the color of the oil you will notice it gets noticeably black after 3000 miles-so, my preference is to do changes at 3000.(its cheaper than engine repairs). Temperature and geographic area(hot and cold climates) can also affect the oil.
