Default Toyota Lucida 2.2 Diesel engine is Interferance or Non-interferance?
I have a Toyota Lucida Estima car 2.2L diesel engine. Its made in 1993. Recently while driving the timing belt snapped.































Can anyone guide me on wether the engine design is Interferance or non-interferance one? I'm told that if its a non-interferance engine, chances are that the valves are not damaged. Is that correct?































Please guide.

I don't know 100% for sure in your application but in general it is pretty much impossible to have a diesel that is non-interference since diesel=compression ignition=way high compression ratio=small combustion chamber at top dead center and there simply isn't enough room for open valves and a TDC piston to cohabitate without hitting each other. In other words next time just change the belt before it breaks and not only destroys the engine but also leaves you stranded alongside the road (again).

Sorry, but there will be valve/piston damage in that motor. All Toyota petrol motors up until recently, which ran a timing belt were non interference motors. Sadly, the diesels all caused damage once the belt snapped.















Depending on kilometres/mileage travelled, it might be a wise move to replace the motor with a second hand one, or have it all rebuilt.
